Genuine Mirin gives foods a subtle sweetness and sheen, an appetizing luster as if they've been glazed. This exquisite, versatile seasoning has the unique ability to coax out and accentuate flavors. Known to provide mouthwatering umami flavor - an essential taste of traditional Japanese cuisine - Mirin's mild sweetness and unique qualities help other ingredients' flavors to meld together.

Mirin is a Japanese sweet rice wine used to balance savory-salty soups, marinades and dressings. The authentic Japanese ingredient is usedas the base of many sauces – teriyaki, for example, is a mixture of soy and mirin. Also use it in tempura dipping sauces, noodle broths, and even to enhance the flavor of desserts such as poached pears. Many popular Japanese dips and dressings use mirin, usually mixed with soy sauce and sometimes dashi. Mirin is also a key ingredient in yakitori, sukiyaki, and teriyaki dishes, imparting a distinctive sweetness and a glazed appearance. You can also use mirin when simmering or poaching – try with fish, tofu or shiitake mushrooms. Mirin is a great ‘secret ingredient’ for Japanese noodle broths – often the addition of just a splash will help to round out the flavors and balance any saltiness.

Genuine Mirin's natural fermentation takes place over 9 months results in a thick, sweet, golden seasoning that enhances the flavors of both sweet and savory sauces, entrees, sir-fries, dips and desserts. Taste the difference!
